As Health and Safety Manager, your primary responsibility is to ensure that all delivery teams operate in line with Blackwell Earth Moving’s health and safety standards. You will champion safety as a core value, ensuring it remains a priority across all project objectives.

This is a high-profile role requiring strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a commitment to team development. You’ll be accountable for embedding a safety-first culture and ensuring that all individuals working on the HS2 project are kept free from harm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of safe working practices across project delivery teams to meet health and safety KPIs.
  • Drive the development and renewal of company accreditations and safety processes.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop a high-performing health and safety team.
  • Ensure seamless integration of the health and safety function within the wider project team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to introduce and maintain effective safety controls and procedures.
  • Uphold the company’s mission and values through visible and accountable leadership.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in health and safety leadership on major infrastructure projects, ideally within a specialist subcontractor environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and best practice.
  • Solid understanding of employment law and Working Rule Agreement terms and conditions.
  • Familiarity with earthmoving equipment and techniques.
  • Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • Strong communication and team development skills.
