About the Role:
The Plant Inspector plays a vital role in ensuring that all plant and equipment used on the project meets Lower Thames Crossing specifications and regulatory requirements. Working within Blackwell Earthmoving Limited (BEL), you will carry out inspections, routine checks and basic maintenance tasks to ensure plant is safe, compliant and ready for operational use. You will report to the Plant Manager and support the wider plant and labour function in maintaining high standards of safety, reliability and efficiency.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Carrying out PDI inspections on earthworks plant, including completing on /off‑hire records, taking photographs, recording machine hours, identifying existing damage and assessing tyre and GET wear.
- Conducting PDI inspections on 4x4s, minibuses and other site vehicles.
- Applying plant identification stickers where required.
- Checking plant safety equipment such as flashing beacons, all‑round vision cameras, dash cameras and reversing alarms.
- Checking lubricants, grease pots and other fluid levels.
- Greasing plant and replenishing grease pots when necessary.
- Completing routine weekly checks on tyre condition, GET and undercarriage wear.
- Assisting with diagnosing plant issues and reporting findings to the Plant Desk.
- Producing risk assessments and safe systems of work for all related activities.
- Managing stock control of all fluids and maintaining COSHH storage areas and the workshop.
- Assisting OEM staff with locating machines and carrying out basic repairs such as filter changes and bulb replacements.
- Replacing GET and cutting edges.
- Issuing Maintenance Permits to Work to OEM or other authorised personnel.

- CSCS Green Card
- Full driving licence
- CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to write risk assessments and follow safe systems of work
- Welding experience or qualification
- Detailed knowledge of Caterpillar, Volvo and Bomag equipment
