We are seeking a visiting clinician (probably a paramedic or a nurse) to cover the maternity leave of one of our paramedics. There is currently a team of 3 paramedics, covering the acute visiting needs of the patients of Hamble Valley Health. The role is for 1 year starting around the middle of May 2026.
Main duties of the job:
- We are ideally looking for someone who will work full time over 4 days, but we would consider a job share.
- Duties would include visiting patients with acute medical needs.
- Our catchment area is Hamble, Netley, Bursledon, Hedge End and Botley.
- Someone who has a full clean license and a car is essential. Mileage will be reimbursed.
- Working alongside the team to provide a first point of contact for patients presenting with medical problems at home, making use of skills in history taking, physical examination, problem solving and clinical decision-making, to establish a diagnosis and patient centred management plan.
- Perform urgent and same-day home visits.
- This role will work as part of the PCN MDT, working collaboratively with primary care network staff to promote integrated and seamless pathways of care.
- Instigate necessary investigation/non-invasive diagnostic tests/investigations and interpret findings/reports.
- Refer patients to an alternative care setting or treat and discharge as appropriate.
- Contribute to the locality practices achieving its quality and quantitative targets to sustain the high standards of patient care and service delivery.
About us:
Hamble Valley Health has a list size of over 37,000, and our patients are mainly concentrated in Hamble, Bursledon, Hedge End and Botley. Our aim is to provide high quality, accessible medical care to our patients, whilst maintaining a supportive and pleasant working environment for clinicians and staff. We are part of Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB, and offer General Medical Services to our patients. We are a training practice, and take registrar doctors and also teach medical students from Southampton School of Medicine. The practice has eight Partners. The current Partnership team is Dr Tomson, Dr Harris, Dr Cropley, Dr Graham, Dr Sonpal, Dr Shahsavanspour, Dr Yates and Dr McKenzie. We employ fourteen salaried GPs, five Advanced Nurse Practitioners, a Nursing team of fifteen, and a reception/admin team of seventy. The practice uses Emis as a clinical system. We are paper light, so scan all incoming correspondence onto patients' medical records. Our online consultation system is Anima.
Job responsibilities:
The visiting clinician will be employed to support population health management through on-the-day demand and access with home visits, treatment of minor ailments and injuries and other support relevant to General Practice. The role will be part of a Multi-disciplinary team including GPs, ANPs and Paramedics, looking after patients in our Urgent Care Centre.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Health and Care Professional Council OR NMC registration
- Experience: Visiting and caring for acutely unwell patients in their home or at hospital
