Business Unit Overview: Blackstone Credit and Insurance delivers Blackstone’s investment management expertise to insurers, helping those firms meet long-term policyholder obligations and drive shareholder value. Blackstone partners with insurers to deliver customizable and diversified portfolios of Blackstone products across our credit, real estate, asset-based finance, and alternatives strategies, as well as the option for full, outsourced management of insurance companies’ investment portfolios.
The Asset Allocation Managing Director will be a key member of Asset Allocation Team within the Office of the CIO, responsible for delivering Blackstone’s investment management expertise and products to insurance companies. The Managing Director will help drive the asset allocation strategy of the various portfolios, bringing together – in a unified, integrated fashion – all of the existing investment capabilities around across the firm for our insurance company clients.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Building and managing a multi-asset class investment solutions capability by collaborating with Blackstone’s portfolio managers to construct tailored multi-asset product offerings for insurers globally.
- Developing strong relationships with the asset management teams across the platform to gain a deep understanding of Blackstone’s collective investment capabilities.
- Developing strong relationships with key decision makers at our insurance company clients.
- Reviewing and monitoring of investment performance, portfolio risk characteristics, and compliance with client investment policies and guidelines.
- Helping oversee the drafting of investment memos, presentations and marketing materials for potential and existing BIS clients on potential investment options as well as regulators and rating agencies on diligence requests.
- Constructing detailed financial models and valuation analyses.
- Conducting insurance industry research and analysis.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have strong expertise managing/advising portfolios across the complete array of investment asset classes. Ideally, he or she will have both public and private markets experience, as well as deep understanding of regulatory, ALM, and risk considerations for insurers, bringing a strong foundation in alternative asset classes and global investment opportunities.
Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who are highly motivated, intelligent and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors. In addition to strong analytical and quantitative skills, the successful candidate should have:
- 12+ years of professional experience; prior investment banking, insurance, or asset management experience preferable.
- Strong expertise across the corporate and structured credit market.
- Strong accounting and financial modeling skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work well in a lean team environment.
- Strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, good judgment, and positive attitude.
