This is an exciting opportunity within this Academy Trust. We are looking for an outstanding and ambitious Deputy Headteacher who can lead others in making a difference to the lives of young people at this Academy. You will need the commitment, passion, and energy to make our vision for Olympus a reality in the local community.

Our school is a brand new free school that opened in Sandwell in September 2023, recruiting 180 students from Sandwell and Birmingham. The school caters for students aged 11 to 16. It opened with Year-7 students only, as a six-form entry school. Olympus will grow year-on-year to provide education for 900 students after five years. This is the next opportunity to join our amazing team as our students now progress into their KS4 study.

You will be at the very front of architecting the environment, infrastructure, and pathway to success. This Academy will create the right environment for young people to flourish, igniting their passion and love of learning, enabling them to thrive academically. We will awaken students' aspirations and develop their understanding of well-being and health, enabling them to thrive personally. We will be at the heart of the community.

Job Specification:

  • Carry out the duties of a school teacher as set out in the Conditions of Service for School Teachers in England and Wales.
  • Fulfil the role of a senior leader and subject teacher as appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of students' achievements; use benchmarks and set targets for improvement.
  • Work with the Headteacher and Leadership Team to create and maintain an environment and a code of behaviour which promotes and secures good teaching, effective learning, high standards of achievement, good behaviour and discipline.
  • Determine, organise and implement the curriculum and its assessment; monitor and evaluate it in order to identify and act on areas for improvement.
  • Develop teaching and learning throughout a range of strategies including coaching and sharing best practice and CPL to raise student achievement and increase engagement.
  • Ensure that appropriate support is put in place and monitored to improve student progress.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of learning and achievement of all students, including those with special educational needs, to inform future developments.
  • Lead in the implementation of policies and practices which promote equality of opportunity and tackle prejudice.
  • Develop effective links with the community, including business and industry, to extend the curriculum, enhance teaching and learning and develop community cohesion.
  • Create and maintain an effective partnership with parents to support and improve students' achievement and personal development.
  • Analyse and evaluate data and suggest ideas for the development of intervention programmes in support of student behaviour, welfare, and attendance.

Leading and Managing Staff:

  • Members of the Leadership Team work with the Headteacher to lead, motivate, support, challenge, and develop staff to secure improvement.
  • Maximise the contribution of staff to improving the quality of education provided and standards achieved.
  • Plan, delegate, support, motivate, and evaluate work undertaken by groups, teams, and individuals, ensuring clear delegation and accountability.
  • Implement and sustain effective systems for the Appraisal of staff.
  • Motivate and enable all staff to carry out their respective roles to the highest standard, through high-quality continuing professional development based on assessment of needs.
  • Lead professional development of staff through example, support, and co-ordinate the provision of high-quality professional development within the area of responsibility.
  • Sustain your own motivation and that of other staff.
  • Ensure that professional duties are fulfilled, as specified in the Terms and Conditions of Service of Teachers, including those for the Leadership Team.

Accountability:

  • Provide information, objective advice, and support to the Headteacher to enable the Headteacher to meet their responsibilities for securing effective teaching and learning and improved standards of achievement.
  • Help create and develop an organisation in which all staff recognise that they are accountable for the success of the school.
  • Help present a coherent and accurate account of the performance of all aspects of the school in a form appropriate to a range of audiences, including LAB members, the local community, OFSTED, and WAT.
  • Help ensure that parents, students, and stakeholders are well informed about the curriculum, attainment and progress, and about the contribution that they can make to achieving the school's priorities for improvement.

  • Responsible for Quality Assurance of education, Appraisal, CPL, and staff performance supported by Senior Leader.
