Blackstone Education are working with an Academy based in South East London who are looking to recruit temp or Permanent STEM Teachers.

Job Purpose

The STEM Teacher (Mathematics & Science) will deliver high-quality, engaging teaching in Maths and Science, supporting learners with diverse needs to achieve positive academic and personal outcomes. The role is ideal for a qualified Maths teacher with strong Science capability, or a STEM specialist confident teaching across at least two STEM subjects. The postholder will contribute to curriculum delivery, learner progress, and enrichment opportunities, working closely with colleagues to provide a consistent and inclusive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning
    • Deliver high-quality Maths and Science lessons that engage, challenge, and support learners of varying abilities.
    • Plan and teach well-structured lessons that develop numeracy, scientific understanding, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
    • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of learners with SEND, SEMH, and those who have experienced disruption to education.
    • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment with high expectations for behaviour and engagement.
    • Use assessment effectively to monitor progress, identify gaps in learning, and inform next steps.
  • Curriculum & Assessment
    • Contribute to the delivery of a coherent STEM curriculum, aligned with awarding body requirements and learner needs.
    • Support accurate and timely assessment, marking, and feedback in Maths and Science.
    • Participate in moderation and standardisation activities where required.
    • Maintain clear records of learner progress and attainment.
  • Learner Support & Inclusion
    • Build strong, trusting relationships with learners to support engagement, confidence, and resilience.
    • Promote inclusion and equity, ensuring all learners can access Maths and Science learning meaningfully.
    • Work collaboratively with pastoral staff and external professionals to support learner well-being and attendance.
  • Enrichment & Wider Contribution
    • Support or lead STEM enrichment activities, such as Maths challenges, Science projects, practical investigations, or themed learning events.
    • Contribute to cross-curricular and applied STEM learning opportunities.
    • Participate in assemblies, tutor activities, and whole-school events as required.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Uphold the professional standards expected of a teacher.
    • Engage positively in CPD, training, and reflective practice.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and support continuous improvement.
    • Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures, maintaining a strong safeguarding culture at all times.

Essential criteria to apply

  • Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Mathematics with the ability to teach science.
  • Strong Subject knowledge in at least two STEM disciplines.
  • Ability to plan engaging, differentiated lessons for learners with diverse needs.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and learner success.
  • Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available).

Desirable

  • Primary school trained teacher, with the ability to teach learners up to Key Stage 3 (experience teaching Key Stage 4 is desirable).
  • Exam and assessment knowledge, including experience preparing learners for formal assessments and qualifications.
  • Experience in alternative provision, SEND, or vocational education settings.
  • Experience delivering Pearson or vocational STEM qualifications (or willingness to train).
  • Interest in applied or project-based STEM learning.
  • Confidence contributing to STEM enrichment activities.
