BlackRock's Compliance Department protects BlackRock’s reputation and provides client-focused advice. The department is a dynamic environment with the team focused on understanding and advising on the impact of regulation in our business, with the objective of:
- Actively participating in business decisions to champion our clients’ interests and assist the business in translating compliance requirements and expectations into their daily work;
- Putting client interests at the centre of everything we do;

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Line of Business group for an Associate to join our Private Markets Line of Business Compliance team. The role sits within the Private Markets Line of Business Compliance team, which provides advice and oversight to BlackRock’s Private Markets business in EMEA, including equity private markets, private debt and multi-alternative solutions teams. This role is fast-paced and will provide broad learning opportunities as the candidate will be required to provide compliance support on a range of regulatory matters, including (but not limited to): support in product development and distribution, provide subject matter expertise on a range of regulatory topics (e.g. conflicts of interest, market abuse, regulatory implementation, investment allocation and reallocation, cross trades); responding to time-sensitive queries in relation to material nonpublic information and drafting of policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage with these businesses to advise on conduct of business requirements and the application of BlackRock compliance policies and contribute to the creation of management reporting and communication on Compliance matters to senior management, corporate and/or fund boards and BlackRock business stakeholders. In addition, it is expected that the successful candidate will work on regulatory implementation projects impacting the Private Market businesses, in partnership with the wider Legal & Compliance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Making a strong contribution to the team’s provision of qualitative compliance advice and support to the relevant business areas within Private Markets;
- Review of relevant regulatory developments and onward communication to the relevant business areas where appropriate;
- Assisting in Compliance or business-driven projects, including regulatory developments and strategic initiatives;
- Contributing to the creation of management reporting and communication on Compliance matters to senior management, corporate boards, BlackRock business stakeholders and business Oversight Committees;
- Assisting the team throughout the Product Development process of Private Markets products, including review of fund documentation and provision of regulatory advice as it relates to conflicts of interest, risk factors and distribution considerations;
- Liaising with portfolio managers and other investment staff on regulatory matters and the application of BlackRock’s compliance policies, e.g., inside information and wall-crossings, crossing, allocation and re-allocation, conflicts of interest;
- Supporting the BlackRock Capital Markets Team on regulatory matters including advising on application of Information Barrier policy, Restricted Lists and regulatory requests for information;
- Drafting and maintenance of policies and procedures;
- Supporting the delivery of effective regulatory training initiatives to the business.
Knowledge / Experience:

The successful candidate will exhibit strong partnership and relationship management skills. The strength of character to offer healthy challenge will be essential, as will be the ability to engage successfully with stakeholders at all levels of the business.
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years compliance experience within a ‘buy-side’ asset manager.
- Preferable if the individual has worked in a role supporting investment teams operating within private markets.
- The candidate must have excellent communication skills and be able to articulate complex issues in a clear and concise manner.
- Must be able to demonstrate dynamism, enthusiasm, resilience, tenacity, diplomacy and above all, sound judgement under pressure.
- Self-motivated and solutions-driven with ability to use initiative and think laterally to navigate problems.
- Ability to influence a highly-performing internal client base by delivering timely, credible, accurate and value-added advice.
- Able to consistently demonstrate high standards of professional accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
