Fylde Council is recruiting an Innovation & Technology Projects Lead to strengthen our IT Team and support the design and delivery of technology‑enabled service improvements including AI, automation, digital workflows, and modern DDaT practices, as we prepare for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).
This is a role for someone who is curious, structured, and confident in exploring new technologies while keeping projects grounded, realistic, and deliverable.
About the role
Based within the IT Team, you will provide focused project management and delivery support for technology‑driven change. You’ll work closely with IT colleagues and selected service areas where digital, data, or automation solutions can deliver measurable value.
You will:
- Project manage technology, innovation, and DDaT‑aligned work packages from concept to delivery
- Support the evaluation, piloting, and implementation of new or emerging technologies
- Help shape and test AI‑enabled and automation‑based use cases in a safe, ethical, and controlled way
- Build networks and represent Fylde at events, communities of practice, and sector forums
- Work with IT colleagues to translate service needs into practical digital or data solutions
- Facilitate focused workshops or technical discovery sessions
- Produce high‑quality outputs such as prototypes, roadmaps, business cases, and evaluation reports
- Ensure documentation, alignment, and technical readiness to support Fylde’s LGR programme
- Help build a consistent, repeatable approach to innovation and modern DDaT practice within the IT function
This role sits at the heart of our IT modernisation efforts, supporting digital transformation, strengthening our data and automation capabilities, and safely advancing the council’s use of new technology.
About you
You will be someone who:
- Communicates clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Brings structure, clarity, and calm into ambiguous or emerging technology projects
- Enjoys testing ideas, solving problems, and helping teams understand new digital possibilities
- Has experience managing projects and turning ideas into practical outcomes
- Is comfortable evaluating tools, exploring novel use cases, and documenting findings
- Understands or is interested in modern DDaT practices, service design principles, and data‑driven decision‑making
- Is curious about how technologies such as AI, automation, and low/no‑code tools can improve services, and is committed to using them responsibly
- Works collaboratively, constructively, and with a strong sense of purpose
Experience in digital projects, IT change, innovation, technical delivery, DDaT roles, automation, or service transformation is essential. Adaptability, mindset and capability to explore and evaluate new approaches and technologies is critical.
