An exciting opportunity has arisen for the correct candidates to join our Anaesthetic and Recovery team. These posts are suitable for either an ODP or Nurse with experience in both anaesthetic and recovery areas. The posts are also suitable for students who are due to qualify this year who will hold an anaesthetic qualification.
Our new theatre suite designed for Day Case & Inpatients boasts state‑of‑the‑art equipment and staffing levels that provide an exemplary environment where best practice can be achieved. Our specialities (Adult & Paediatric, elective and emergency) include:

The Anaesthetic and Recovery Team (AR team) provides emergency anaesthetic cover to:
- A&E emergency room
- Intensive care
- MRI & CT
- Intra‑ & Inter‑Hospital transfers.

Main Duties of the Job:
- Accountable within the theatre team to ensure that the standard of patient care is of a high level, quality being of prime importance.
- To adhere to and practise within the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct and Health and Care Professions Council standards.
- Ensure adherence to agreed Trust policies.
- The position is primarily a theatre anaesthetic and recovery practitioner, although some rotation and flexibility will be required to meet service needs.
- The post-holder will be called upon, occasionally, to take charge of the unit/area.
- The post holder will be expected to participate in internal rotation, weekend, unsocial hours and on‑call duties.
- The post holder will be part of a clinical team provided to ensure that clinical care of patients and others using the service receives an efficient and quality service.
- The post offers the opportunity to further develop clinical and non‑clinical skills within the team.
- They will also be encouraged to obtain and maintain ILS and PILS compliance.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities:
- A MANAGING ACTIVITIES
- Maintain activities to meet requirements. Ensure all policies/protocols/standards are upheld. Maintain Health and Safety for all staff, patients, visitors, and members of the multidisciplinary team following Trust policy. Adhere to the Control of Infection policy. Attend yearly updates for all mandatory training.
- Manage activities to meet requirements. Report and document accidents, incidents, and losses.
- Manage activities to meet customer requirements. Be accountable within the team for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, maintaining agreed standards and ensuring patient satisfaction. Arrange for the care of patients’ valuables and other property as per Trust policy.
- Contribute to improvements at work. Take part in developments and trials of new ideas and methods within the unit. Keep abreast of clinical and nursing developments within the allocated area.

- Support the efficient use of resources. Arrange for the ordering and storage of drugs. Arrange for the ordering and storage of supplies/stores. Ensure the effective utilisation of stores and equipment.

- Manage yourself. Be the patient’s advocate; promote, safeguard and support safety for the patient and family. Participate in in‑service training as required.
- Develop your own resources. Establish and maintain good relationships with patients, visitors, colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team to minimise conflict. Develop and maintain good communication skills – explain complex clinical procedures to patients and where there may be barriers to understanding. Attend appraisal interviews annually to review job performance and professional development. Maintain your PREPP requirements.

Develop teaching skills appropriate to work location and participate in the education and continuous assessment of learners as appropriate. Develop technical skills and maintain clinical competence as a theatre practitioner.

- Develop productive working relationships. Co‑operate with all other departments, assisting with the coordination of their activities in relation to patient care. Promote good relationships and the image of the Trust both within and outside the organisation.

- Manage the performance of teams and individuals. Carry out agreed duties within the theatre and supervise the work of other staff. Achieve a high morale amongst staff, based on good organisation within the theatre/area.

- Manage information for action. Ensure privileged information is kept confidential. Assist with the admission and discharge of patients in the unit.
- Promote information to support decision making. Ensure all documentation is completed legibly, signed, and dated. Comply with admission and discharge planning as per policy. Ensure information is passed to junior staff at regular intervals.

- Promote the importance and benefits of quality. Ensure quality is assured in each aspect of clinical practice. Ensure that patients’ requirements are met and that you contribute fully to achieving the Trust corporate goals and objectives. Ensure that Trust Standards of nursing care are adhered to, for example 'Essence of Care'.

- Active Registration with HCPC as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) OR Active Registration with NMC as a Nurse (RGN) who has a nationally recognised anaesthetic qualification
