An exciting opportunity for a Paediatric Staff Nurse to join our team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. The successful applicant will work within the Paediatric Unit Team and be involved in the Children’s Assessment Unit, Children’s Ward, High Dependency Unit and Paediatric day surgery. The post offers experience with a wide range of paediatric conditions, including oncology, high‑dependency care and adolescent care.
Main Responsibilities:
- Deliver quality care to children with various health and social concerns.
- Work within policies and procedures to provide evidence‑based care.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and team leader.
- Prioritise clinical care and administer medications.
- Refer patients to relevant agencies.
- Attend meetings as required.
Professional Qualifications and Training:
- Registered Children’s Nurse (RSCN) – Child Branch.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Mentorship or willingness to work towards mentoring when in post.
- Minimum 1 year experience in paediatrics.
- Degree.
- Paediatric Life Support training maintained and up‑to‑date (EPALS/APLS).
Experience and Knowledge:
- Willingness to expand clinical role: IV training, venepuncture, cannulation.
- Experience delivering autonomous patient care.
- Experience liaising with other agencies.
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment.
- Clear understanding of safeguarding procedures.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of national/local guidelines in Children’s Services.
- Administration and management of intravenous devices (e.g., central lines, portacaths).
- Experience with children’s community services.
- Knowledge of leadership and management.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach children, families and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work with colleagues across health, education and social care settings.
- Able to prioritise workload.
- Flexible attitude to working across a 7‑day week and 24/7 operation.
