As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be a visible personality on the ward, able to take control of situations and manage the general day‑to‑day running of the ward in the ward manager's absence. You will lead by example, be approachable and supportive to all staff, and provide advice and guidance when needed. The applicant must have a minimum of 3 years cardio‑thoracic nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the care needs of patients and understand varying conditions and requirements.
  • Coordinate safety huddles to inform all staff on shift of any new risks and update them regarding changes to medical plans.
  • Liaise with the medical team, man board rounds and assist the consultant on daily ward rounds.
  • Assist the ward manager with managing sickness, attendance policies and the incident reporting system.
  • Support staffing needs for training, book courses for mandatory training and professional development, and assist with weekly/monthly audits to ensure compliance with trust guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and training if shortfalls are identified in staff performance.
