An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic registered nurse who has a keen interest in sexual and reproductive health to join the West Sexual Health Service team in Skelmersdale and Ormskirk. The post is for 22.5 hrs worked over 3 days flexibly including evenings. The successful candidates will be based within Sexual Health Services at Ashurst Health Centre and will also work in community clinics throughout West Lancashire.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide sexual health advice, education, asymptomatic screening and treatments to patients in a supportive confidential environment.
- Perform venepuncture, in line with Trust Policy.
- Issue prescribed medication as requested by medical staff and non‑medical prescribers and offer relevant/necessary advice to patients.
- Provide sexual health information, advice, teaching and support to patients enabling them to select and use a method of contraception suited to their needs.
- Support the Senior Sexual Health Nurses to maintain a high level of service to patients in the absence of a Doctor.
- Ensure excellent documentation of patient care in the electronic patient records.
- Act as the patient’s advocate at all times and promote their privacy, dignity and modesty during the clinic visit.
- Participate in audit/clinical governance issues such as record keeping, patient satisfaction.
- Maintain stock levels within the clinical area and prepare clinical rooms ensuring equipment and supplies necessary to offer optimum treatments are available.
- Participate in the teaching of other health professionals and undertake Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) with staff up to and including Band 4.
Person specification:
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Multi-disciplinary working.
- Knowledge of data protection acts.
- Experience of working in nurse led clinics and working to PGDs.
- First level Registered Nurse.
- Ability to work on own initiatives within professional limitations and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
