Responsible for highly specialist assessment, treatment and management of children and young people aged 0‑19 with complex needs requiring home adaptations. This part‑time role (21.3 hours per week) requires 18 months of relevant experience at Band 6 level or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Take clinical responsibility for a paediatric caseload, assessing need and organising care effectively.
- Provide skilled assessment and treatment plans for housing adaptations and related equipment.
- Advise and educate other professionals (architects, housing officers, social care) and families on occupational therapy aspects of adaptations.
- Explain treatment options, develop negotiated goals, and gain informed consent from parents/carers.
- Maintain safe manual handling and risk assessment procedures, including prescribing and training on specialist equipment.
- Act as consultant on housing adaptations for the paediatric occupational therapy service and collaborate with multi‑agency teams.
- Delegate tasks, supervise and train occupational therapy assistants and students.
- Promote evidence‑based practice and support junior colleagues.
- Represent the occupational therapy team at multi‑disciplinary meetings and in the development of integrated care plans.

Education and Qualification
- Graduate Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Member of HCP
- Evidence of post‑graduate development and leadership
Skills and Ability
- Sound knowledge of current best practice and professional conduct
- Understanding of clinical governance and relevant legislation
- Experience of research, audit, reflective practice, or outcome measures
- Ability to relate theory to clinical practice and plan treatments efficiently
- Demonstrable knowledge of paediatric therapy assessment, intervention and equipment use
- Manual handling skills and initiative under pressure
- Car owner/driver
Experience & Knowledge
- Extensive post‑graduate occupational therapy experience, especially in paediatrics
- 18 months of relevant experience at Band 6 level or equivalent
- Recent experience in community settings with supervision of junior staff
- Experience delivering training and educating students and colleagues
- Experience with major housing adaptations
- DBS check required.
