Patient Flow Assistant – Emergency Department
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Emergency Department team as a Patient Flow Assistant. The role supports the Nurse and Consultant in Charge with the safe and timely flow of patients through the department. This is a full‑time position covering a 24/7 period – please ensure you are able to work a variety of shifts.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that there are up-to-date plans for all patients > 2 hours.
- Ensure that clerking is up to date in real time.
- Cross reference all patients in the Emergency Department to ensure that all referred patients are on the tracker.
- Accurately input the Bed Booked times.
- Ensure referral times to specialties and specialty outcomes are recorded accurately.
- Ensure coding is completed by a clinician prior to discharge and the patient is removed.
- Gather information prior to each safety huddle and complete the template accurately.
- Monitor and elevate IPS breaches to area leads/clinical staff/nurse in charge and work to support achievement of IPS.
- Liaise with Diagnostic Services.
- Follow up and highlight available clinical reports to clinician/nurse such as CT reports and Lab results.
- Book porters for patient transfers.
- Answer the phone and, under the direction of the nurse in charge, respond to or redirect calls as appropriate.
- Contribute towards creating a high‑performance, continuously improving environment by being proactive in identifying patient pathway delays and highlighting to the necessary team.
