We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Position

Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (full or part time) within the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will lead the Paediatric Emergency Medicine service and act as the lead doctor for child protection within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure robust PEM teaching and training for all doctors and nurses within the department.
  • Provide high‑quality care to patients, including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff.
  • Ensure all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst maintaining quality and safety.
  • Work with the Nurse Coordinator to ensure effective and timely communication between the clinical team, providing safe care and maintaining optimal patient flow.
  • Coordinate paediatric resuscitation courses.
  • Liaise with other paediatric departments (medical, surgical, orthopaedic, critical care) within the hospital and associated hospitals in the Trust network.
  • Serve as the lead doctor for child protection within the ED department.
  • Reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and initial treatment of all emergencies as appropriate.

Location

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

Disclosures and Barring Services (DBS) Checks

As part of the pre‑employment checks you will be required to undergo a DBS check. The level of check required will depend on the role that you are offered and may include a Basic, Standard or Enhanced check. The cost will be collected via a salary deduction. You may choose to pay this over 1‑3 months from your salary or as a one‑off payment on commencement in post.
