We are looking for a Graduate Design Engineer to join our Blackhall Talent Pipeline Graduate Programme. You will be an integral part of our highly motivated Centre of Technical Excellence, heavily involved in the research and development of innovative valve solutions.

About Blackhall: Founded in 1965, Blackhall is a valve design and manufacturing organisation based in the North of England. Recognised by the UK Government’s Engineering is Great campaign, Blackhall has a broad base of expertise across the water, power, oil & gas, and cryogenics industries. Our aim is to combine our strong heritage with tailored innovation, providing valve solutions for clients all over the world.

The Role: As a Graduate Design Engineer, you will:

  • Be part of our Centre of Technical Excellence.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers on real-world engineering challenges.
  • Support the design and development of innovative valve solutions.
  • Carry out stress calculations using appropriate pressure vessel standards and design rules, and produce design reports to support your work.
  • Undertake 2D and 3D design tasks to produce engineering drawings.
  • Learn to create Bills of Materials within Material Requirements Planning system.
  • Assist in R&D activities, including hands-on tasks such as assembling and testing valves.
  • Gain shop floor and production experience to further develop your practical knowledge.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline).
  • Strong interest in design, innovation, and engineering problem-solving.
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to learn.
  • Passion for developing a career in engineering.
  • A strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials.
  • Understanding of fundamental design calculations (e.g., stress, pressure, flow) and their application in engineering solutions.
