The role is being offered by a modern boutique private hospital in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The hospital serves the population of South Yorkshire and beyond, and is easily accessed via train, M1 and M18. Free parking is provided. Facilities at the hospital include 21 inpatient beds, disabled-friendly rooms, 2 laminar flow operating theatres and 3 consultation rooms. The hospital offers the most up-to-date surgical treatments combined with a warm welcome and a professional and caring service from our nursing team. The hospital specialises in the areas of orthopaedics, cosmetic surgery, and women's health, but also undertakes general surgery.
The hospital seeks a full-time Perioperative Nurse / Scrub nurse to work in their busy theatres. The nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, safe, and effective peri-operative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. The role focuses on maintaining a sterile environment, supporting the surgical team, and ensuring excellent patient outcomes in line with professional standards and CQC requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clinical Duties
- Acts as scrub practitioner for a wide range of surgical procedures in line with individual competency and training.
- Prepare operating theatres prior to surgery, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and consumables are available and checked.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and sterile fields throughout surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team to ensure procedures run efficiently and safely.
- Patient Care and Safety
- Deliver patient-centred care, with dignity, respect, and compassion at all times.
- Actively contribute to patient safety, incident reporting, and learning from near misses.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and best practice.
- Participate in safeguarding responsibilities in line with legislation and hospital policy.
- Ensure accurate documentation is completed contemporaneously and in line with regulatory standards.
- Governance & Compliance
- Work in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct and hospital policies.
- Support compliance with CQC standards and participate in audits where required.
- Maintain up-to-date mandatory training and professional development.
- Participate in clinical governance activities, including risk assessments and service improvement initiatives.
- Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists, ODP's, recovery staff and wider multi-disciplinary teams.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
- Support junior staff and contribute to a positive learning environment.
- Escalate concerns appropriately to senior staff.
- Professional Development
- Maintain NMC registration and revalidation requirements.
- Engage in ongoing training to expand surgical competencies where appropriate.
- Participate in appraisal, supervision, and reflective practice.
PERSON ATTRIBUTES
- Essential Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
- Scrub experience within an operating theatre environment.
- Strong knowledge of infection control and aseptic technique.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends if required.
- Desirable Experience in a private hospital setting.
- Competency in multiple surgical specialities.
- Previous involvement in audits or quality improvement.
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
WHAT'S ON OFFER
- Gross annual salary: between £30,000 to £35,000 (depending on experience and designation).
- Working hours: 38-40 hours per week, across 5 days.
