Overview

In this role you will oversee the utilities engineering function, ensuring reliability, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. You will lead engineers and contractors to maintain HVAC and critical infrastructure, optimise energy use, and uphold GMP standards. The role combines technical oversight with on-site leadership and project delivery. You contribute to safe, compliant operation while driving efficiency across mechanical and electrical systems. This position offers impact in a regulated, manufacturing environment with cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise planned, reactive, and corrective maintenance activities across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for HVAC and critical infrastructure.
  • Perform inspections, fault finding, root cause analysis and audits.
  • Review BMS/HVAC controls to improve plant performance and energy efficiency.
  • Manage small works projects, shutdowns, upgrades, and installations.
  • Ensure GMP compliance, statutory, and health & safety standards.
  • Oversee contractors and specialist service providers on site.
  • Support training, development, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Act as Approved Person for Electrical HV/LV and/or Mechanical Pressure Systems where applicable.
  • Participate in an on-call rota (approximately 1 week in 6).

Key requirements

  • Experience supervising engineers or technicians in pharmaceutical, GMP, or other regulated environments.
  • Qualified in mechanical or electrical engineering (HNC, ONC, City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of building services, utilities, and maintenance practices.
  • Experience with CMMS/CAFM and contractor management.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
