We are currently recruiting for a Senior Maintenance Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team within a regulated manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting production operations, coordinating engineering activities, and ensuring the reliability of manufacturing and packaging equipment.

Working closely with the Senior Production Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining equipment performance, supporting operational priorities, and developing the next generation of engineering talent.

The Role

As a Senior Maintenance Engineer, you will support the efficient operation of production by coordinating engineering activities and leading technicians on shift. You will also contribute to continuous improvement, maintenance strategy, and regulatory compliance across manufacturing and packaging systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating engineering resources to support daily production requirements
  • Planning and overseeing engineering maintenance activities
  • Leading and directing Production Engineering Technicians on shift
  • Coaching and mentoring apprentices and trainee engineers
  • Performing maintenance, fault finding, and repair of manufacturing and packaging equipment
  • Ensuring equipment operates reliably and in line with GMP and industry standards
  • Recording equipment failures and maintenance activity on CMMS systems (e.g., Maximo)
  • Supporting investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventative actions
  • Implementing preventative, reactive, and runtime maintenance strategies
  • Supervising external contractors and equipment vendors
  • Supporting engineering projects and equipment modifications
  • Developing and maintaining procedures, job plans, and technical documentation
  • Participating in risk assessments and method statements for engineering work

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a technically strong engineer with leadership capability and experience in a regulated production environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Time-served engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
  • Engineering qualification such as:
    • City & Guilds Level 3
    • BTEC Level 3
    • ONC / HNC / HND or equivalent

Experience:

  • Strong engineering maintenance background
  • Experience within a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment is highly desirable
  • Hands-on experience with production and packaging machinery

Key Skills:

  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&ID, loop drawings)
  • Excellent organisation and coordination skills
  • Clear and accurate technical documentation
  • Good communication and team leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced production environment
  • Computer literate and familiar with maintenance management systems
  • Flexible, multi-disciplined approach to engineering work
  • Strong focus on identifying root causes and preventing repeat failures
