An opportunity is available for a Chartered Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy working on technically challenging projects across a variety of sectors. The role involves leading the design and delivery of mechanical building services solutions for projects ranging from infrastructure and education facilities to healthcare, science, technology, residential, and industrial developments. Projects are delivered within collaborative, international teams, providing exposure to innovative and sustainable building design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems throughout project lifecycles.
  • Develop engineering strategies and technical solutions for building services installations.
  • Undertake thermal comfort assessments and building performance analysis.
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, architects, and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Manage the production of engineering calculations, reports, specifications, drawings, and models.
  • Ensure project delivery within agreed budgets, programmes, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Support project planning, resource allocation, and risk management activities.
  • Contribute to business development, fee proposals, and tender submissions where required.

Preferred Experience

  • Detailed design experience within Science, Industry, and Technology facilities.
  • Experience delivering rail-related building projects across multiple design assurance levels.
  • Knowledge of complex and sustainable building systems.

Candidate Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer status through a recognised professional institution (e.g., Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering body), or expected to achieve chartership within approximately 12 months.
  • Strong practical experience in mechanical building services design and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability.
  • Passion for sustainable design, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction.
  • Experience integrating renewable energy technologies into building projects.
  • Proficiency with building performance and energy modelling software, such as IES.
  • Commercial awareness, including budgeting, resource planning, and project financial management.
  • Experience contributing to bids, proposals, and client-facing activities.
