Blackedge Consulting is working closely with an established and growing multidisciplinary property, design and engineering consultancy in Portsmouth, looking to strengthen its Building Surveying team.

This is an opportunity to move beyond simply identifying defects and producing reports, becoming a trusted adviser to clients and working alongside experienced professionals across different technical disciplines.

The opportunity

You'll be involved in a varied portfolio of building surveying instructions, supporting clients with the condition, performance, maintenance and ongoing improvement of their properties.

From investigating building defects and recommending remedial solutions through to supporting refurbishment projects, you'll have the opportunity to use your technical knowledge to make a tangible difference.

Your involvement will include:

• Undertaking building inspections, condition surveys and technical assessments.
• Investigating defects and recommending practical, commercially sensible solutions.
• Preparing technical reports, schedules of condition and refurbishment specifications.
• Advise clients on maintenance, building compliance and lifecycle considerations.
• Supporting refurbishment and remedial projects through technical advice, contractor liaison and site involvement.
• Working collaboratively with surveying, design, engineering and project delivery colleagues.

You might be an Assistant Building Surveyor ready for greater responsibility, an established Building Surveyor looking for more varied work, or someone with relevant experience in property consultancy and building assessment.

What matters most is your understanding of building construction, defects and technical problem-solving, combined with the ability to communicate confidently and provide practical advice.

We'd particularly welcome conversations with people who:

• Enjoy investigating and solving technical building problems.
• Have experience of building surveys, defect diagnosis or refurbishment.
• Can produce clear, accurate reports and recommendations.
• Are comfortable managing their own workload and client expectations.
• Want to continue developing professionally within a multidisciplinary environment.

A Building Surveying qualification, RICS accreditation or progress towards chartership would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience will also be considered.
