Great design is one thing. Making it work in the real world is another.
There's something particularly rewarding about seeing a design develop from an idea into a technically sound, coordinated and buildable solution.
Especially when the projects are complex, the disciplines are varied and the work you're contributing to genuinely matters.
Blackedge Consulting is working closely with an established and growing multidisciplinary Design & Build consultancy in Portsmouth, looking to strengthen its architectural team.
With an exciting portfolio of projects, including multimillion-pound programmes within the MOD and UK defence sector, this is an opportunity to develop your technical expertise whilst working alongside architects, civil and structural engineers, building services specialists and BIM professionals.
The opportunity
This is much more than a traditional drawing production role.
You'll play an important part in translating design concepts into practical technical solutions, working across different RIBA stages and collaborating with multiple engineering and design disciplines.
Your involvement will include:
- Producing detailed architectural drawings, technical information and construction packages.
- Developing practical detailing solutions with buildability and compliance in mind.
- Coordinating architectural designs with structural, mechanical, electrical and BIM teams.
- Supporting projects through planning, technical design and construction stages.
- Working with Revit, AutoCAD and established BIM processes to maintain accurate project information.
- Helping resolve technical challenges and contributing ideas to improve design quality and delivery.
Who are we interested in?
We're keeping an open mind on experience levels and backgrounds.
You might be an Architectural Technician, Architectural Technologist or an experienced Architectural Designer. Equally, you could be earlier in your career and looking for an opportunity to develop your skills within a more technically diverse environment.
What matters is your understanding of architectural detailing, building construction and the importance of coordinating designs across different disciplines.
You'll ideally have experience with Revit and AutoCAD, an understanding of UK Building Regulations and an interest in developing your wider technical knowledge.
Previous defence or MOD experience would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
We're particularly interested in people who enjoy solving technical problems, collaborating with others and taking pride in delivering work that stands up beyond the drawing board.
Why consider it?
Not every architectural opportunity gives you the chance to work so closely with multiple engineering disciplines.
Here, you'll be joining a relatively close-knit architectural team with access to the wider expertise of an established multidisciplinary consultancy.
The nature of the work provides exposure to technically challenging projects, including secure defence environments, with the opportunity to develop experience that may not be available within more traditional architectural practices.
The business is also a genuine advocate of CPD, professional development and supporting individuals towards chartership, with experienced technical leadership and a collaborative approach to developing its people.
It's an opportunity to contribute, learn and grow within a business that continues to invest in both its people and its future.
Due to the nature of certain projects, eligibility to obtain the relevant UK security clearance may be required.
You don't necessarily need to be actively looking for your next move.
