An international engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Electrical Discipline Lead to support the delivery of large-scale data centre and AI infrastructure projects. The organisation delivers integrated, mission-critical solutions across planning, design, commissioning and operation of high-performance digital facilities. This is a senior technical leadership role focused on setting electrical engineering strategy, driving technical excellence, and supporting the delivery of resilient, energy-efficient and future-ready infrastructure. The position works closely with sector leadership, clients and multidisciplinary teams to shape innovative solutions across complex, high-density power environments.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will lead electrical engineering excellence across a portfolio of mission-critical projects, acting as a key technical authority and point of contact for complex electrical systems within data centre environments. This is a collaborative leadership role with significant influence across design strategy, technical assurance, delivery standards and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as technical lead for electrical engineering across data centre and AI-focused projects
- Develop and maintain electrical design standards, templates and best practice guidance
- Provide technical assurance across HV/LV systems, grid connections and utility interfaces
- Lead design strategies covering redundancy and resilience (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1)
- Oversee UPS systems, energy storage, generation, fuel resilience and power quality strategies
- Drive coordination across multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, ICT, BMS, fire and structural disciplines
- Promote integrated design delivery and chair technical coordination reviews
- Lead BIM-enabled electrical design delivery, including model strategy and coordination workflows
- Support use of digital tools and platforms including model federation and clash detection processes
- Embed sustainability principles including energy efficiency, grid interaction and performance optimisation
- Define commissioning strategies, integrated testing and energisation approaches
- Support bid development and work-winning through technical input and electrical narratives
- Monitor project performance including budget, programme, risk and change control
- Mentor and develop engineers, supporting capability growth across the discipline
- Represent the organisation at client meetings, industry forums and technical engagements
About You
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng or equivalent) preferred
- Extensive experience delivering electrical systems within data centre / mission critical environments
- Strong background in large, complex programmes (typically £100m+ desirable)
- Deep understanding of electrical power systems, resilience strategies and IT load integration
- Strong knowledge of BIM processes including Revit, model coordination and CDE workflows
- Experience working with multidisciplinary design teams in complex infrastructure environments
- Commercially aware with strong capability in forecasting, budgeting and resource planning
- Confident communicator with ability to engage senior stakeholders and clients
- Proven ability to mentor, lead and develop technical teams
- Strong understanding of commissioning, IST and operational readiness strategies
