We are seeking an Electrical Engineer at an intermediate level to join a growing Building Services Engineering team in Belfast. This role offers the opportunity to design and deliver sustainable, efficient, and innovative electrical systems that enhance the performance, safety, and resilience of a wide range of built environments. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and concept design through detailed design, construction support, and project completion.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to high-quality engineering solutions across sectors including healthcare, industrial, commercial, and mission-critical facilities such as data centres. The successful candidate will support the production of detailed electrical designs, undertake engineering calculations, and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations. You will also contribute to the adoption of digital engineering tools and processes, helping to improve efficiency through automation and integrated design approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical building services systems from concept through to detailed design.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Design electrical systems including:
    • High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) power distribution
    • Lighting and lighting control systems
    • Fire detection and alarm systems
    • Security and access control systems
    • Earthing and lightning protection systems
    • Renewable energy and low-carbon electrical systems
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices, including BS 7671.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of BIM and digital engineering methodologies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and innovative design solutions.

Requirements

  • Essential Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Working towards professional chartership, or willingness to pursue chartership with support from the employer.
  • Experience in electrical building services design and engineering.
  • Understanding of electrical design principles, calculations, and relevant standards.
  • Experience designing a range of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, and earthing systems.
  • Proficiency in BIM environments, particularly Revit.
  • Experience using industry-standard electrical design software such as: Amtech / Trimble, ETAP, SKM, Dialux, ProDesign.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

  • Membership of, or progress towards membership of, a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience working across multiple sectors including healthcare, industrial, commercial, or data centre projects.
  • Interest in digital engineering, automation, and innovation within the design process.
