As their project portfolio grows, we are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer with strong leadership skills in either Electrical or Mechanical disciplines. Who We're Looking For
We want to hear from Principal-level Electrical or Mechanical Engineers with extensive experience driving multi-disciplinary design teams and complex data centre projects across UK and European markets. You will be a key figure in project strategy and delivery excellence, ensuring technical leadership, client satisfaction, and the highest standards in engineering design and coordination.
Key Responsibilities (Depending on Discipline)
- For Electrical Engineers: Provide strategic leadership on electrical design for hyperscale and colocation data centres across the UK and Europe. Oversee high-level power distribution designs including UPS, switchgear, generators, and standby power systems. Lead development of design standards, quality assurance, and compliance across projects. Foster innovation and adoption of emerging technologies in electrical infrastructure. Act as a senior client advisor on electrical systems and project feasibility.
- For Mechanical Engineers: Lead mechanical design strategy for HVAC, cooling, and environmental control systems on large data centre projects. Drive innovation in cooling and energy efficiency solutions tailored to hyperscale and colocation requirements. Establish design frameworks, standards, and best practices across the consultancy. Manage high-level stakeholder relationships including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies. Mentor and develop senior engineers and technical leads.
- For Both Roles: Lead multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical and mechanical systems. Oversee project delivery, risk management, and compliance with UK and international standards (BS, IEC, ASHRAE, CIBSE, NFPA). Engage in business development and bid strategy to secure new data centre projects. Represent the consultancy at industry events and foster client relationships across UK and Europe. Champion professional development and knowledge sharing within the engineering teams.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or Building Services).
- 12+ years’ progressive experience in engineering with at least 5 years in a principal or senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of delivering complex hyperscale, colocation, or mission-critical data centre projects across UK and Europe.
- Deep technical expertise in your core discipline with strong cross-discipline collaboration skills.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) essential.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience driving innovation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement in engineering design.
