We are currently looking to recruit to a Stores Assistant to provide a responsive and efficient purchasing and stock control service for the Council. The purpose of the role is to support the sourcing and procurement of supplies and services whilst maximising cost efficiencies and achieving best value through the implementation of best procurement practices for Council Services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role:
- To research and investigate appropriate markets to seek the best procurement opportunities for the Council and to produce purchasing strategies relevant to each item of stock.
- To be responsible for stock levels within the Stores operation, ensuring regular stocktaking is carried out in line with Council Standing Financial Instructions.
- To monitor the safe storage and control of any potentially harmful materials and chemicals used by the Councils services and ensure such materials are appropriately marked and sign posted.
- To issue and receipt materials and equipment in the Department's Stores on a day-to-day basis, ensuring effective control and security of stocks through established systems and procedures and good practice.
- To maintain a good working knowledge of the Financial Management System of the Council, Stock Control and the eProcurement systems.
- To place electronic orders with suppliers and manage stock levels using computerised systems.
- Operate the forklift truck and JCB to load/unload materials to and from vehicles.
- To be responsible for all deliveries attending the depot site, including the safe delivery of fuel.
- Ensure safety & security of the Stores building, with responsibility for fire marshalling, key holding and alarming.
- To obtain samples of products and arrange demonstrations of equipment, for testing and evaluation.
- To assist in carrying out legally required safety checks on all tools and equipment used by departmental services.
- Ensure the compliance of COSHH regulations for all materials procured via Stores and Health and Safety regulations are adhered to.
- Contribute to the development of new procedures within the Stores building.
- To operate heating plant and equipment efficiently and effectively, managing adjustments to the control systems as necessary and arranging for repair to defects.
- Ensure materials, equipment and the Stores area, including the outer Depot, are kept clean, tidy and securely maintained.
- To contribute to the wider needs of the department and undertake other duties commensurate with the post as allocated by line managers.
Working Pattern:
- Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
- Friday: 07:30 – 15:00
- Lunch Break: 1 hour per day (unpaid)
The above working hours include a one-hour lunch break each day.
