Job Title: Attendance & Pastoral Officer with Welfare Assistant Duties

Grade/Salary: Attendance & Pastoral Officer duties: Grade E, SCP 9-15, £27,254 to £30,024 pro rata. Welfare Assistant duties: Grade B, SCP 2-3, £24,413 to £24,796 pro rata.

Contract Type: Permanent

Contract Terms: 32.5 hpw, Term Time (Split between 30hpw Attendance & Pastoral Officer duties and 2.5hpw Welfare Assistant duties)

Our Governors are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, caring and enthusiastic Attendance and Pupil Welfare Lead to join our hardworking and dedicated team.

We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for supporting children and families, someone who understands that good attendance, emotional wellbeing and strong relationships are key to success in school and beyond.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of our pupils by providing pastoral and practical support, helping to remove barriers to learning, and working closely with families and external agencies to promote positive outcomes for all.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of co-ordinating and delivering activities to improve pupil attendance.
  • Knowledge of statutory guidance to support the implementation of policies, systems and strategies that ensure pupils attend school regularly.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate attendance records and analysing data to identify pupils at risk of persistent absence.
  • Experience of working with families to encourage positive home/school relationships.
  • An understanding of how to offer practical help and emotional support to families experiencing short or long-term difficulties.
  • Experience of liaising with a wide range of agencies to keep children safe and an understanding of safeguarding procedures.
  • Is confident, empathetic and able to manage sensitive or challenging situations with discretion.
  • Works effectively as part of a team but can also take initiative when required.
  • Own transport with clean driving licence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils and families to improve attendance and engagement.
  • Working with class teachers, senior leaders, and external agencies to ensure all pupils receive the support they need.
  • Using the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) and Team Around the Family approach to assess and coordinate support.
  • Liaising with Social Services regarding children on the Child Protection Register, Children in Care, or those receiving other interventions.
  • Promoting a positive school culture where every pupil feels safe, valued and supported.
