Job title: Academy Steward
Department: Academy Stewarding Department
Based at: Blackburn Rovers Academy, Old Langho, Blackburn, BB6 8BA
Reports to: Academy Secretary
Responsible for: N/A
Hours of work: As and when required. Hours of work will predominantly be offered for Academy match days which typically fall on weekends and weekday evenings.
Contractual status: Casual Worker
Job purpose
As an Academy Steward, you will be expected to be fully committed to carrying out your duties in ensuring the safety and welfare of all spectators, players, customers and clients.
Duties and responsibilities
- To be committed to ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all spectators, customers and/or clients of the Club;
- Managing capacities and behaviour through proactive observation of interaction with spectators and guests;
- To assist with queue and car park management within the allocated areas;
- Ensure effective close down of areas at required times;
- To monitor crowds and spectators;
- To identify and report hazards and defects including suspect objects in line with the Club’s procedures;
- To report any unusual crowd dynamics as and when required;
- To provide guidance to the public when required;
- To patrol the Academy matchday areas as and when required;
- Any other duty as reasonably assigned by the Academy Secretary.
Skills required
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Approachable with the ability to use initiative;
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of staff, guests and spectators;
- Confidence, resilience and perseverance to deal with incidents when they arise;
- Enthusiastic with a natural ability to relate to a wide range of people;
- The initiative to work independently and the ability to work in a team;
- Flexibility, empathy and commitment;
- Good organisational skills; and
- The ability to remain calm under pressure.
Qualifications required
- NVQ2 Spectator Safety or working towards (desirable);
- Customer service qualification (desirable); and
- SIA Licence (desirable).
