Reports to: Shop Manager

Purpose of Role

To contribute to increasing the sales of the shop through providing an excellent customer experience and outstanding product quality whilst working as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing an excellent experience to each and every customer who visits the shop, ensuring that all customer needs are exceeded at all times.
  • Assisting in the preparation and service of all products as required, ensuring the correct standard and quality is met at all times.
  • Assisting your colleagues whenever and wherever possible, thereby promoting excellent teamwork.
  • Ensuring all production processes & practices are followed at all times, including Food Safety controls.
  • Ensuring any and all payment procedures in particular cash handling are performed in an accurate and consistent manner.
  • Following reasonable instruction from the management team and carrying out miscellaneous duties as required at all times.

Retail duties

  • Ensuring every customer is greeted in a friendly & timely manner, making them feel welcome throughout every part of their visit, and encouraging them to come back; recognising regular customers and remembering their orders & any special requests.
  • Demonstrating fast, efficient service by ensuring that customers are not kept waiting at any time.
  • Assisting customers with all requirements by offering suggestions & demonstrating great product knowledge at all times; assisting customers with requests and ensuring these are catered for.
  • Dealing effectively and courteously with any customer complaints and reporting them immediately to the manager; making the manager aware of any potential complaints or dissatisfied customers.
  • Acting as a final check on the quality and consistency of food and drinks before they are served.
  • Communicating effectively with the rest of the team regarding potential product shortages to prevent items from running out and keeping the displays looking full.
  • Ensuring that the correct packaging and merchandising materials are used at all times.
  • Producing great quality coffee & other drinks in line with our recipes.

Production duties

  • Minimising levels of wastage by correctly maintaining & storing products and following recipe specifications & preparation guidelines.
  • Monitoring the quality of bread and all other products being delivered into the shop to ensure that they are suitable for being sold to our customers.
  • Prepare our product range to the correct guidelines.
  • Monitoring the quality and consistency of food products before they are served, making sure that no sub-standard items are put out on display or served to customers.
  • Following our Food Safety controls at all times, including making sure all preparation is stored in a clean, labelled, dated and organised manner following correct stock rotation.

Barista duties

  • Minimising levels of wastage by correctly maintaining & storing products and following recipe specifications & preparation guidelines.
  • Prepare the coffee range to the correct guidelines.
  • Monitoring the quality and consistency of coffee products before they are served, making sure that no sub-standard items are served to customers.
  • Following our Food Safety controls at all times, including temperature controls, labels are used correctly, products are dated and organised in a manner following correct stock rotation.
  • Following all required procedures for the opening and/or closing of the coffee area of the shop.
  • Performing all required cleaning duties, and ensuring that all areas are maintained to agreed standards of cleanliness & hygiene and left accordingly at the end of your shift.
  • Complete all required daily retail procedures, including equipment checks.
  • Conducting daily coffee checks ensuring all grinder and coffee set ups are up to company standards.
  • Conducting weekly in store coffee audit with training/coaching if necessary.
  • Cleaning and close down of the coffee machine.

All Team Member – Baristas must assist with the completion of retail shifts as required, including all associated duties.

General duties

  • Following all required procedures for the opening and/or closing of the shop.
  • Adhering to all aspects of fire safety, Health & Safety, Food Safety, Trading Standards, COSHH and any other company policies.
  • Wearing the uniform with pride and maintaining the highest level of personal hygiene.
  • Performing all required cleaning duties, and ensuring that all areas of the shop are maintained to the agreed standards of cleanliness and hygiene and left accordingly at the end of your shift.
  • Working in a clean, safe and hygienic manner at all times, including responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of all customers, colleagues and yourself.
  • To report any faulty or damaged equipment or machinery to the manager.
  • To report all accidents to the manager.
  • Assisting with the training of any new team members within Blackbird on instruction as required.
