This position reports to: Operations Manager, Motion Service.

As a Field Service Engineer, no two days will be the same. You’ll carry out routine maintenances, repairs and commissioning on LV and MV variable speed drives at our customer sites across the UK. Our customers range from automotive wind tunnels to wind turbines and papermills to steel plants. You’ll be part of a supportive team of technical support, project, and field service engineers.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact.

Work model: Home based with travel located south of the Midlands.

You’ll be responsible for the following activities on ABB’s LV and MV variable speed drives in the UK:

  • Commissioning of new and upgraded drives.
  • Routine technical maintenance in accordance with ABB’s bespoke maintenance schedules.
  • Fault finding and repair activities at customers’ sites.
  • Participation on a 24/7 on-call system providing emergency response to ABB’s contract customers.
  • From time to time, you may be involved in longer term projects delivering upgrades and new systems. These will be in the UK and potentially offshore.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Technical training or experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Industrial background.
  • Highly motivated individual.
  • Willingness to learn and progress both in the classroom and in the field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fault finding experience on electrical equipment.
  • Previous experience working with Variable Speed Drives.
  • Field Service Engineer Background.
  • Full UK driving license required.
