I’m working with an independent professional services firm in Central London that brings together lawyers, accountants and tax specialists under one roof. Their client base is predominantly SME businesses, with particularly strong links to Australia and the US. The legal team advises on Corporate, Employment, Business Immigration and Commercial Property, alongside a senior consultant who deals with disputes arising from the wider services the firm provides. That creates a really interesting opportunity.
They already have a strong network of clients and professional contacts, with a steady flow of disputes and plenty of potential for referred work. What they don’t currently have is a dedicated Commercial Litigation department. They are therefore looking for a Senior Associate or Partner who would relish the opportunity to come in and become the face of the department. This is not a role where you are simply inheriting an existing caseload and carrying on as normal. The attraction is in building a department and making it your own, with the backing of an established business, an existing source of referrals and a senior consultant who can help with the bedding-in process and introduce you to his network.
You’ll have the freedom and scope to develop the offering, build your own team over time and take advantage of the significant amount of work that can be generated from the firm's existing client base. The firm also has a very sociable culture and, given the international nature of its client base, there is genuine scope for international travel and developing relationships with clients across the US and Australia.
What they’re looking for:
- A strong Commercial Litigator at Senior Associate or Partner level
- Someone commercially minded who enjoys developing relationships and winning work
- An individual who is excited by the prospect of building rather than simply inheriting
- Someone who can take ownership of the department and become its figurehead
- Ideally, someone with their own network/referral relationships, although this is not essential
What’s on offer:
- Central London location
- Genuine opportunity to build and lead a Commercial Litigation practice
- Strong referral potential from an established client base
- Support from an experienced senior consultant with an extensive network
- Full benefits package
- Sociable, entrepreneurial culture
- Potential for international travel
If you’re a Commercial Litigator who has ever thought “I’d love to build a department if I had the right platform”, this could be worth a conversation. For a confidential discussion, please get in touch or send your CV to.
