About The Role
Black & White Engineering (B&W) is a leading MEP design consultancy. Launched in the UAE in 2007, we became an independent company in 2014 and are now a true global consultancy with offices in Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Our engineering expertise reaches across all sectors of the construction industry, providing pragmatic and practical design solutions to ensure our projects are spatially and operationally efficient. Our design process fully considers the installation and maintenance practicalities on site.
Due to our continued growth into the data centre sector, we are looking to recruit a Power Systems Engineer in Manchester within a multi-disciplinary team on technically-challenging MV and HV engineering projects. This role will be responsible for providing sound technical and design support on power systems projects in support of the wider mechanical and electrical disciplines, ensuring the project requirements and clients’ specifications are fully met.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development and growth of the company by identifying new opportunities and potential areas for growth, and also maintaining and developing existing client relationships.
- Acts as part of a multi-disciplinary design team to ensure successful preparation and delivery of project objectives, including providing technical support.
- Compiles specifications, drawings, and relevant contract documents, maintaining the required technical quality of work, ensuring that designs comply with the relevant codes, standards, regulations and procedures.
- Ensures, as far as is practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed budget and schedule.
- Monitors and addresses own training and development requirements.
- Keeps up to date with technical developments, national and international standards, and legislative requirements related to the discipline.
- Provides power systems design and analysis under the supervision of the senior team, working within the parameters given.
- Identifies scope and schedule changes in accordance with the change control process, maintaining planning and cost control on all scope.
Qualifications
- A relevant degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering with power options, or an equivalent qualification or sufficient suitable experience.
- Associate or student member of an appropriate professional body such as IET or an equivalent overseas engineering institution.
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- Ability to demonstrate extensive experience in a wide range of technical areas.
- Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
- Technical knowledge in primary discipline and a good understanding of electrical and power systems and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
- An appreciation of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering, and computer modelling in the design of buildings.
- Good interpersonal communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Computer literacy which includes AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office, plus ETAP (or a similar power systems analysis software with a willingness to learn ETAP).
- Results-oriented approach with strong problem-solving, technical realisation, and coordination skills.
- Current UK driving licence.
