About The Role

Black & White Engineering (B&W) is a leading MEP design consultancy founded in the UAE in 2007 and became an independent company in 2014. We are now a global consultancy with offices in Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Our engineering expertise covers all sectors of the construction industry, delivering pragmatic design solutions that are spatially and operationally efficient. We are recruiting a Design Manager for our UK offices to lead project, financial, QA/QC, and technical management of multi‑disciplinary projects.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and growth of the company by identifying new opportunities and potential areas for growth, and also maintaining and developing existing client relationships.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the multi‑disciplinary design team to ensure successful preparation and delivery of project and business goals.
  • Develop, manage, monitor, and maintain project requirements, processes, records, and reports.
  • Manage, report, and review project timelines, costs, program, quality, and performance.
  • Manage risk and performance monitoring, identifying and addressing performance issues.
  • Collaborate with the design team and manage multiple workstreams to ensure quality and timely operation delivery for clients.
  • Act as the lead project design manager and liaise with the client and external design team as necessary for successful project delivery.
  • Manage client stakeholder relationships across the projects.
  • Identify and manage changes to design scope and scheduling in accordance with the change control process, maintaining planning and cost control including design fee changes.
  • Manage, monitor, and take responsibility for the profit and loss.
  • Coordinate monthly financial reports, both internal management accounts and external applications for payment.
  • Negotiate positive outcomes, resource planning, and motivation for virtual design teams working in multiple time zones.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in engineering, or equivalent qualification or sufficient suitable experience.
  • Extensive experience in project management within MEP engineering, managing project deliverables and costs.
  • Strong client, contractor, partner, and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the end‑to‑end design process.
  • Understanding of design processes and MEP engineering, with data centre experience.
  • Sound knowledge at the senior engineer level, managing multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Desirable experience in data centre projects, or other critical engineering facilities.
  • Experience of complementary specialisms such as architecture, structures, civils, security, and permits.
  • Associate or student member of an appropriate professional body, such as MCIBSE, MIET, IMechE.
  • Achieved or working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Client‑focused with exceptional relationship management experience.
  • Results‑oriented individual with strong problem‑solving, technical realisation, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Computer literacy which includes Microsoft Projects, records management programme software, PageTurn, and Microsoft Office.
  • Sound knowledge of current health and safety issues and legislation.
