Overview
As a Senior Electrical Engineer in Black & Veatch's Nuclear Infrastructure team, you will shape electrical design for critical nuclear facilities. You’ll work within multidisciplinary teams on upgrades, refurbishments and asset optimisation to ensure safe, reliable operation. This role emphasizes electrical infrastructure design in regulated, high-stakes environments, offering opportunities to influence major national infrastructure projects. You will mentor junior engineers and ensure compliance with UK standards while delivering impactful engineering solutions.

Responsibilities
- Lead or support electrical design packages for nuclear projects
- Create and review diagrams (single-line, three-line), protection schematics, motor control wiring, cable schedules, and layout drawings
- Perform calculations (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, motor starting, protection coordination)
- Prepare specifications, scope docs, and bills of materials for procurement and construction
- Conduct site surveys to understand existing infrastructure and identify solutions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, project managers and clients
- Support project planning, budgeting and programme delivery
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
- Ensure compliance with UK regulations, client standards and best practice
Key requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
- Typically 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership (preferred)
- Strong understanding of UK standards, regulations and best practices
- Experience delivering electrical design in regulated environments
- Experience with power distribution systems and infrastructure design
- Familiarity with engineering software and discipline-specific tools
- Experience on nuclear, power, industrial, defence, or critical infrastructure projects
