The Opportunity

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Take a lead role in site development activities and enabling works for energy sector projects within the UK and internationally.
  • Drive multi-disciplinary coordination across global teams, working closely with electrical, geotechnical, environmental, planning, and construction teams to deliver integrated site layouts and solutions.
  • Guide technical discussions and make recommendations regarding site constructability and design.
  • Contribute to team development activities, including mentoring, performance feedback, training, and succession planning, supporting the growth and capability of less experienced engineers.

This role is based in our Glasgow city centre office 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work from home the rest of the week. For your first 3 months with us, you'll work from the office 5 days per week to help you get settled in.

Travel and on-site requirements

This is a primarily office-based role, however there will be occasions when you are required to travel to site and client offices. For site development activities you'll need to visit site and lead site visits for short periods (typically one day), assessing the site in regard to constructability and design optimisation / optioneering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop technical proficiency in civil site development for renewable and energy infrastructure projects, including BESS, solar arrays, access roads, platforms, earthworks, drainage, and cable routing.
  • Provide guidance on the application of relevant design guides, industry standards, engineering codes, and internal quality and safety policies.
  • Lead the design and approval of surface water and foul drainage systems for site development projects, including SuDS schemes, attenuation storage, flow control, pumped systems, and adoptable/non adoptable drainage networks in line with DCG, CIRIA C753, and local authority requirements.
  • Undertake and oversee hydraulic analysis and drainage assessments, including greenfield runoff estimation, climate change allowances, exceedance flow routing, and Flood Risk Assessments, ensuring compliance with LLFA, EA/SEPA, and planning conditions.
  • Prepare and review complex civil engineering deliverables for medium to large or multidisciplinary projects, including drawings, specifications, technical reports, method statements, and construction support documentation.
  • Coordinate, manage, and verify the accuracy of survey, geotechnical, environmental, and third party data required to inform civil design.
  • Manage assigned packages of work, including programme, budget, and quality requirements, and contribute to project planning and risk management activities.
  • Provide technical leadership by delegating appropriate tasks to junior engineers and technicians, reviewing their work for technical accuracy and compliance, and supporting their professional development.
  • Actively liaise with internal stakeholders, clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies on moderately complex projects, supporting the identification of client requirements, programme drivers, and site constraints, and embedding these considerations into design solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Some experience of civil site development and enabling works in the UK
  • Some experience of civil engineering design

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc in related field
  • Professional recognition qualification such as Chartered Engineer / working towards chartership.
  • UK project experience in site development, especially drainage design
  • Experience of: Outline design, feasibility, FEED, detailed design, procurement and installation project stages associated with civil infrastructure works.
