Black Swans Exist is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing, Denmark-based life science tools company developing next-generation analytical instrumentation for protein and biomolecular characterisation. This is a confidential search for a highly motivated Field Application Scientist to support and expand the company’s commercial presence across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The role is ideal for a scientifically strong, customer-oriented professional who wants to stay close to cutting-edge science while taking on a highly visible, commercially impactful position.

The Opportunity

You will become the key scientific and technical expert for an innovative analytical platform used by leading pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, CROs, and academic institutions. The technology enables researchers to study proteins and other biomolecules directly in solution, helping them generate reliable answers to complex biophysical questions faster and with greater confidence.

As Field Application Scientist, you will work closely with customers and the commercial team to drive adoption of the platform across the UK and Ireland. You will support the full customer journey, from technical presentations and proof-of-concept experiments through to installation, training, troubleshooting, and long-term customer success. This is a role for someone who enjoys combining deep scientific knowledge with communication, problem-solving, and commercial awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Sales Scientific & Commercial Support: You will collaborate closely with the regional commercial team to develop key accounts, support sales strategies, and contribute to growth targets across the UK and Ireland. Your responsibilities will include delivering technical presentations, seminars, and workshops to prospective customers, as well as planning and executing on-site and in-house instrument demonstrations. You will design proof-of-concept experiments that address customer-specific challenges and present experimental data clearly and confidently to demonstrate the value of the platform.
  • Post-Sales Customer Success: You will lead post-sale activities including instrument installation, user training, and application support. A key part of the role will be ensuring customers are successful, confident, and able to maximise the value of their investment. You will provide proactive and responsive technical troubleshooting, build strong relationships with users, and help create a community of scientific advocates across the market.
  • Market Feedback & Technical Contribution: You will act as an important link between the market and the internal organisation, sharing customer insights and application feedback with product, application, and commercial teams. You will stay up to date on the company’s technology, relevant applications, and evolving customer workflows. You may also support basic instrument maintenance and coordinate field repair activities with remote engineering colleagues when required.

Your Background

We are looking for a candidate with a strong scientific foundation and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to different audiences. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A Master’s degree in Protein Biophysics, Structural Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline; a PhD is strongly preferred.
  • At least 2–3 years of relevant experience, ideally as a Field Application Scientist in the life science tools industry. Equivalent hands-on experience from a CRO, biotechnology company, or advanced academic research setting will also be considered.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of biophysical characterisation techniques, especially related to protein interactions and structural analysis.
  • Experience with customer-facing work, technical support, training, demonstrations, or collaboration with sales teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive, resilient, and independent problem-solving mindset.
  • Location in the UK or Ireland.
  • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel frequently, up to approximately 50%, including overnight stays.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to become the technical face of an innovative life science tools company in a strategically important market. You will work at the intersection of science, customers, and commercial growth, helping researchers solve complex challenges while supporting the adoption of a differentiated analytical technology.

Black Swans Exist is managing this search on behalf of the company. All enquiries and applications will be handled with full confidentiality.
