We are recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor (Senior QS) to join a construction and groundworks business on a permanent basis, offering a basic salary of £95,000–£110,000 (depending on experience) + bonus scheme. This is a high-impact role for an experienced commercial professional looking to take ownership of project profitability and commercial performance.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Lead, you will be responsible for the financial and commercial management of multiple construction projects, ensuring profitability, cost control, and contract compliance across the full project lifecycle. This is a senior-level construction QS role with a strong focus on contract management, cost reporting, and stakeholder engagement, working closely with Project Managers, Finance, and Directors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the commercial lead across multiple projects
  • Managing project profitability, cost control, and financial performance
  • Overseeing applications for payment (AFP), valuations, and variations
  • Maintaining variation trackers and ensuring all entitlements are captured
  • Producing monthly CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation) reports
  • Managing retentions, payments, and commercial deadlines
  • Leading subcontractor procurement and contract management
  • Ensuring contracts (NEC / JCT) are administered effectively
  • Attending client meetings and site visits
  • Building strong relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Supporting and developing junior commercial staff
  • Reporting weekly to senior leadership and finance teams

Pay & Benefits:

  • £95,000 – £110,000 salary

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 07:30 – 16:30 (roughly)

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
  • Background in construction / groundworks (essential)
  • RICS Accredited
  • Experience managing project finances, CVRs, and variations
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Full UK driving licence
