Duties of the Post
  • Directing the Saturday Music School (West London) Orchestra
  • To be the creative lead for the 2-hour weekly orchestral rehearsal at the SMS-WL
  • To conduct and lead the orchestra in a way that keeps rehearsals fun and engaging whilst always having high expectations and with an appropriate level of challenge
  • To work with MiSST’s Director of Excellence Programmes and Director of Music (Curriculum) in relation to choosing repertoire, creative approaches and continuing to ensure the SMS-WL stays aligned with the MiSST Music Academy
  • To work closely with the SMS-WL instrumental tutors, giving clear instructions and guidance related to sectionals and other rehearsal matters
  • To fairly decide, alongside the instrumental tutors, how the sections are seated
  • To make sure the orchestra is progressing well, performing termly, and concert-ready for MiSST’s annual events
Teaching music theory top-up classes
  • To work with MiSST’s Director of Music (Curriculum) and Dormers Wells’ Head of Music to facilitate appropriate-level, 1 hour, top-up theory classes in line with MiSST’s teaching methods
  • To create, acquire or request resources for these classes where needed
  • To cater these sessions for the specific students that attend and more relevant to orchestral playing than their in‑school lessons
Other
  • Work with the MiSST Team / SMS Team towards any performances
  • Undertake tasks that would be deemed reasonable within the remit of this role
