Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that payroll for c. 500 employees are processed accurately on a weekly basis.
- Monitor time and attendance records.
- Maintain and administer deduction records to include periodical returns and payments.
- Maintain and regularly update payroll records and filing systems.
- Calculate SSP, SMP, and SPP when required and administer company sick pay.
- Maintain accurate pension records.
- Communicate with HR department to ensure payroll is processed accurately and employee information is kept up to date.
- Produce the required weekly payroll Sage reports.
- Reconcile payroll, ensuring that all new starts are added, leavers removed, correct rates have been applied.
- Adhere to the relevant HMRC rules and regulations for payroll reporting, keeping up to date with current legislation and company compliance.
- Address payroll queries via email, phone and in person.
- Process ad hoc reports as required.
- Prepare the weekly payroll journal for upload.
- Support the accounts receivable and accounts payable function.
- Carry out any administration duties required to ensure smooth running of the office.
What you'll need to succeed
- Minimum 3 years experience processing payroll and using a time and attendance system.
- Minimum 3 years experience working within a finance function.
- 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English at Grade C or above.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office including Excel.
- Working knowledge of SAGE payroll and UK PAYE rules and statutory regulations.
- Excellent level of English, both written and verbal.

- Ability to work in a busy, fast paced office environment.
- Organised and able to prioritise workload with accurate record keeping.
- Ability to work to deadlines and understand urgency of month end cut-offs.
- Be able to demonstrate initiative whilst working in a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft packages including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
