Overview
Black Country Living Museum seeks an individual with experience or transferable skills in planning maintenance projects from inspection through to completion. The role involves practical, varied work across our 31-acre site, supporting historic buildings and events with a blend of modern and traditional techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake repairs and maintenance across museum buildings and site structures, drawing on a broad range of building skills such as carpentry, plumbing, brickwork, groundwork, and gardening.
- Operate tools, equipment and plant complying with health and safety legislation.
- Work on the museum’s historical buildings using traditional methods and materials.
- Assist in the take-down of buildings/structures off-site and the rebuild on the museum site.
- Support general site work where appropriate.
- Assist with the electronic ‘help desk’ administration.
- Participate in setting up, operating and taking down museum events when required.
- Operate company vans on and off site, including the collection and delivery of materials and equipment.
What We’re Looking For
- Self-motivated with a comprehensive understanding of construction and/or relevant trade qualifications (NVQ or City & Guilds).
- Willingness to learn and proactive attitude towards construction and general maintenance operations.
- Confident IT skills essential for documenting completed work and ordering materials.
- Willingness to work collaboratively, sharing knowledge, skills and information within a team of staff and volunteers.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
