Location: Dudley

Salary: c£35,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work. Flexible start and finish times between 8.00am–6.00pm.

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Black Country Living Museum is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join our Collections Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in collections management and the care of historic objects. If you have real enthusiasm for bringing the stories of the Black Country to life, we would love to hear from you.

What will you be doing?

  • Implementing and regularly reviewing best-practice standards in collections management, care and ethics.
  • Promoting and facilitating access to the collections for research, interpretation, programme development and study.
  • Contributing to the development of the Museum's collecting policy to inform acquisitions, disposals, site developments, exhibitions and public programmes.
  • Administering incoming and outgoing collection loans procedures.
  • Managing the Collections Coordinator and volunteers and supporting the training of colleagues in collections care.
  • Managing the Museum's Archive and Resource Library.

What are we looking for?

  • A postgraduate qualification in Museum Studies or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of managing staff.
  • Demonstrable experience of collections management and care, including awareness of current sector developments, ethical issues, Accreditation, SPECTRUM compliance and best practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within and across teams.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritise effectively, adapt to changing demands and remain calm under pressure.
  • A clear commitment to inclusivity and representation, and an understanding of how this applies to the role.
