Perform pre-sales and sales engineering activities for Black Box Infrastructure products and services (structured cabling, fiber optic, etc.). Review and analyze infrastructure scopes of work as the basis for determining how much a project/job will cost, how long the project/job will take to complete and how much revenue it should generate. Analyze factors such as labor costs, material costs, equipment rentals, specific software and hardware, project location, permitting, and licensing. Gather details and compile data to accurately analyze, estimate and control production & delivery costs according to specifications of infrastructure projects. Evaluate bid specifications and drawings and obtain all information required to successfully bid and win the project.

Provide continuous monitoring of open infrastructure bids, RFP’s and estimates to inform management of either new business awards or lost opportunities. Ensure project performance through the prioritization of safety and environment needs, schedule, costs, equipment, staff levels, material, subcontractors, equipment maintenance, and quality. Ensure estimating activities meet corporate client satisfaction objectives as well as internal and external SLAs.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate forecast of the cost, size, and duration of future projects.
  • Collect and analyze data on all of the factors that can affect costs, such as materials, labor, location, duration of the project, and special equipment requirements.
  • Participate in pre-bidding decision making efforts; review preliminary drawings and specifications, perform site visits, gather information related to site access; the availability of electricity, access to network centers, and related. Fully document information obtained.
  • Prepare estimate of the materials, labor, subcontractors and equipment required to perform the statement of work (SOW).
  • Determine prevailing wage applicability for each project and work with human resources to obtain wage data.
  • Prepare documentation using standard estimating forms, filling in dimensions, numbers of units, and other information.
  • Analyze bids made by subcontractors and build into the estimate.
  • Identify equipment needs, sequence of operations, labor specialties, crew size, and physical constraints at the site as well as allowances for wasted materials, inclement weather, shipping delays, and other factors that may increase costs must be incorporated in the estimate.
  • Develop a cost summary for the entire project, which includes the costs of labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, overhead, taxes, insurance, markup, and any additional costs that may affect the project.
  • Establish budget and control factors for project costs and review with sales and the project management office.
  • Establish and maintain an open-ended database of proposal responses according to company processes and tools.
  • Continuously develop and enhance knowledge, skills and abilities through various learning channels to expand technical and non-technical capabilities.
  • Ensure further expansion of computer aided design systems and understanding of products & services that BBOX supports.
  • Meet all financial performance objectives for area of responsibility and take corrective action as needed.
  • Implement and make recommendations to improve methodologies, core competencies and processes for deployment engineering to ensure stable and quality product & service delivery consistent with company objectives and client expectations.
  • Maintain and enhance a strong client service-oriented environment focused on problem prediction, detection and resolution.
  • Proactively identify and remove barriers to meeting client expectations.
  • Provide timely documentation of issues, action plan and outcome.
  • Achieve all client satisfaction objectives and internal and external SLAs.
  • Actively and consistently recommend and support all efforts to improve, simplify, automate and enhance day to day service delivery operations and the client experience.
  • Foster and contribute toward collaborative working relationships within NASI operations and across all levels and departments of the organization to execute estimating functions and company priorities.
  • Achieve performance targets established by leadership for applicable Key Performance Indicators.
  • Utilize escalation and exception paths, processes and systems to report current performance and make recommendations for improvement of performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
