To provide high-quality, recovery-focused mental health nursing care within inpatient or community services on behalf of the Trust. The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for service users with complex mental health needs, ensuring safety, dignity, and therapeutic engagement at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care
- Deliver safe, evidence-based mental health nursing care in line with the NMC Code and Trust policies.
- Undertake comprehensive mental health assessments and risk assessments (including self-harm, suicide, violence, and safeguarding risks).
- Develop, implement, and review person-centred care plans.
- Administer and manage medication, including depot injections, in accordance with Trust protocols.
- Monitor physical health needs and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Respond effectively to crisis situations, including de-escalation and management of challenging behaviours.
- Risk Management & Safety
- Maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
- Participate in observations (general and enhanced levels as required).
- Apply least restrictive practice in line with the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
- Accurately document incidents and complete Datix reports as required.
- Communication & MDT Working
- Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, OT staff, and support workers.
- Participate in ward rounds, CPA meetings, and handovers.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and contemporaneous electronic patient records.
- Provide support and psychoeducation to service users and families where appropriate.
Essential
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) valid NMC registration.
- Minimum 6 months recent NHS mental health experience.
- Experience working in acute inpatient, PICU, forensic, or community mental health settings.
- Competent in risk assessment and management.
- Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
Desirable
- Experience working within MHA sections.
- PMVA/Breakaway training (in-date).
