Working from various sites. Van available to transport equipment. You may need to make your own way to the work site. Monday to Thursday 08.00 to 16.15 and Fridays 08.00 to 16.00.

Responsibilities

  • Be a member of the Mobile Services Team operating across all areas of the borough.
  • Carry out both intensive and general cleansing of communal internal and external estate areas, including graffiti removal, using specialist equipment such as pressure washers and steam cleaners.
  • Collect and transport belongings, goods, refuse and other items from offices, stores, sheds, garages, voids, and residential properties for storage, use or disposal.
  • Carry out caretaking and cleaning duties according to a weekly schedule and as instructed by the Estate Services Team Leader.
  • Keep walls, doors, stairs, landings, corridors and walkways clean and to a good standard.
  • Inspect blocks, carry out minor repairs, clean refuse chambers and bulk stores, and immediately remove hazardous waste from internal and external areas, using safety barriers where required.
  • Salt/grit entrances and paths in icy weather.
  • Provide additional cleaning to washrooms, common rooms, kitchen areas, offices and toilets in Supported Housing Schemes, as well as testing pull cord systems.
  • Identify and report non-attendance and poor performance of grounds maintenance, waste removal contractors, details of vandalism, Anti-Social Behaviour, misuse of facilities including parking, abandoned vehicles, communal repairs and tenancy breaches.
  • Carry out intensive deep cleaning of internal and external communal areas using a range of specialist equipment including jet washers and steam cleaners.
  • Clear refuse, rubbish, and waste from difficult to access communal areas, such as garage roofs and estate porches using specialist equipment.
  • Remove human and animal waste and leave clean using appropriate personal protective clothing and cleaning equipment.
  • Carry out the clearance and cleaning of blocked refuse chutes.
  • Respond and assist with emergency situations which occur during working hours, including providing barriers, warning signs, and arranging clearance of fire and flood debris.
  • Carry out window cleaning to communal areas above ground floor level using appropriate equipment.
  • Have knowledge of emergency procedures in case of accident, fire, flood etc. and report specific emergency situations promptly to the Emergency Service.
  • Keep secure, regularly check and maintain in good order vehicles, equipment, mobile phones, block entry keys and any other items issued to the Mobile Services Team.
  • Report any dangers to the public on an estate, including emergency repairs, making safe or securing hazardous sites as necessary.
  • Report any insecure residential properties or Homes for Haringey controlled cupboards, roof hatches or lockable rooms and carry out temporary repairs where possible.
  • Maintain all records required for the post including worksheets, accident/incident reports, repairs records, hazard records as directed by the line manager.
  • Be aware of and minimise any risks to the public resulting from the use of cleaning materials and equipment in public places.
  • Be responsible for the safety and proper use of all plant, tools or equipment in the care of the post holder.
  • Use the approved protective clothing on all occasions.
  • Ensure the estate cupboards, meter cupboards, roof hatches, access ladders and all other lockable rooms are secure and safeguard any keys.
  • Drive council vehicles appropriately, completing vehicle check sheets before and after every shift, reporting any accidents or damage to the vehicle.
  • Keep the vehicle in clean condition, internally and externally and ensure all equipment is removed at the end of the shift.
  • Ensure the safety of all keys that allow access into buildings managed by Haringey Council.
