Scale 5/6 £33,143 - £39,152 / £39,152 - £44,075 (career graded), pro-rata pay award pending plus an Essential Car User Allowance. Permanent, 18.5 hours per week.

Are you an enthusiastic, self‑motivated team player who has a strong sense of customer focus and good communication skills? An opportunity has arisen for a part‑time (0.5 FTE) Senior / Environmental Health Officer specialising in food and safety to work in our Commercial Environmental Health Team. This exciting and stimulating role encompasses a variety of environmental health work including:

  • Proactive and reactive inspections for food hygiene and health & safety in a wide variety of businesses
  • Provision of advice and guidance to our businesses to maintain compliance & success
  • Assessing safety controls at events
  • Investigation of food poisoning and infectious disease cases
  • Inspection of skin piercing premises
  • Opportunities for supporting officers in other areas such as enviro‑crime, housing and other public health areas

Blaby District Council is seeking a qualified professional who can manage a balanced case load, make sound professional judgements and use a proportionate, risk‑based approach to enforcement. You will have at least 1 year’s post qualification experience and ideally be competent under the Food Law Code of Practice to inspect high risk food businesses. You must hold a suitable qualification for food hygiene as listed in the Food Law Code of Practice. With in-depth knowledge of key legislation, regulations and relevant guidance, you will have a proven ability to carry out inspections, investigations, gather evidence, serve statutory notices and prepare cases for prosecution.

This role operates within a career‑graded scheme, offering progression, based on responsibility, experience, qualifications and personal performance. You will be able to provide, on request, a copy of your competency framework and current and appropriate CPD. This role will require an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (known as a DBS check). All offers of employment will be made conditional upon receipt of the satisfactory DBS check.
