Lightbulb is a partnership of the seven District Councils in Leicestershire and the County Council, bringing together a range of practical housing support into a single team. We aim to maximise the contribution that housing support can play in keeping vulnerable people independent in their homes.

An exciting vacancy has arisen to join our dynamic team of Technical Officers, to use your skills and knowledge to design and deliver appropriate schemes of adaptations to domestic properties, enabling vulnerable service users to stay safe, secure, warm and independent in their own homes.

You will be working across all seven District Councils in Leicestershire and flexibility may be required to work from other County locations. You will have the opportunity to work independently in a customer focused environment and will work closely with colleagues and partners including Occupational Therapists, Housing Support Coordinators, Administration, landlords, health and social care organisations, builders and architects to ensure the timely delivery of our services.

Experience in a construction related field or housing repair/adaptation would be useful, as is the ability to produce schedules of works and provide technical drawings. You will have experience of working with vulnerable people with sensitive issues and have the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, with a ‘can do’ attitude. This role will require you to manage and deliver a varied and complex caseload with minimum supervision and therefore, awareness of current planning and building regulation issues and relevant health and safety legislation would be advantageous.

This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (known as a DBS check). All offers of employment will be made conditional upon receipt of the satisfactory DBS check.

Benefits of working with us include a local government pension scheme, exciting career opportunities, flexible working including a flexi‑time scheme and out of town offices with free car parking and cycle bays. We also support Hybrid working arrangements with a combination of on‑site and home working.

Blaby District Council is committed to equality of opportunity for all, and we welcome applications from all diversities. We are committed to the employment and career development of disabled people, care leavers and those in the Armed Forces. As a Disability Confident Employer and to show our commitment to Care Leavers and the Armed Forces Covenant, we offer a Guaranteed Interview Scheme. Further information can be found on our jobs page.
