BKR is an established customs and trade advisory firm, working with businesses across the UK and Europe to structure their supply chain and optimise their customs processes. We are excited to introduce a unique opportunity for a Junior Customs and Duty Management System Operator to join the BKR Team. In this role, you will play a key role in fulfilling all our DMS Customer’s day-to-day operations. In addition, you will also be responsible for maintaining our customer’s special procedure authorisations, ensuring they remain fully compliant with the legal frameworks set forth by HMRC. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate closely with our customers and software providers daily, to uphold the highest standards of customs compliance and data accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure submission of customs-related information and all customs declarations are completed accurately and in accordance with agreed SLAs and HMRC regulations.
- Maintain technical knowledge of Customs and Trade to a sufficiently high level.
- Maintain ongoing customer relationships.
- Communicate with all parties within the supply chain (Customers, freight forwarders, hauliers, suppliers and HMRC) to facilitate the smooth flow of goods through Customs.
- Collaborate with our duty management software provider, to ensure any system issues are communicated to the customer and resolved swiftly.
- Ensure any reporting agreed with the customer is completed accurately and sent within agreed SLAs.
- Manage and resolve any HMRC communications regarding queries, holds and amendments.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Previous roles in Customs Brokerage or Freight Forwarding Operations, with a focus on Customs and Trade Compliance.
- Practical knowledge of import and export processes, Trade Compliance and Customs documentary requirements.
- Understanding and awareness of HMRC customs regulations especially Customs special procedures – IP, OP, Customs Bonded Warehousing, Excise products, SCDP.
- Previous experience communicating with HMRC, and familiarity with the appropriate communication channels for query resolutions.
- Full UK driving licence.
Skills & Attributes:
- Team player with strong relationship building skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Highly skilled at managing your own time and coordinating internal administrative tasks.
- Competent using MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel with a prior knowledge of Customs Declaration software – DMS software knowledge is also advantageous.
- Capable of working independently, but also as a supporting member to a wider operational team.
