Reporting To: Corporate Tax Director and/or Tax Partner

ResponsibilitiesThis role involves overseeing the flow of work within the team, ensuring technical competency, and managing client expectations. The Senior Manager is trusted to undertake final reviews of tax computations and is responsible for the team\’s budget and recovery targets. The role requires effective communication of technical issues, winning and billing for additional work, and providing feedback to partners on client relationships. The Senior Manager also plays a crucial role in team management, development, recruitment, identifying new business opportunities, and managing client risks.

How You\’re Making a DifferenceIn this role, you will:

Compliance work

Manage the flow of work and workload within the team

Plan client work with technical competency in mind; ensuring that colleagues are appropriately matched to clients and that they are provided with the right level of experience to aid their progression

Take responsibility for final reviews of tax computations before they go to Director or Partner level for final sign‐off

Manage the team\’s budgets and ensure recovery targets are met

Manage client expectations (both internal and external) and ensure they are satisfied with the service received from the team

Quote for new compliance‐only work

Maintain in‐depth knowledge of the professional area and broad knowledge of other areas

Communicate client risks on technical projects effectively

Clearly communicate technical issues and solutions in email and report communications

Draft clearances and reports that are technically accurate, ready for Director or Partner review before client delivery

Provide feedback to Partner or Director on any issues that may affect client relationships

Continuously anticipate and manage client expectations

Team management

Take an active role in the overall development and progression of direct reports

Support the development of the wider team through peer reviews, contribution and quarterly reviews, and other feedback loops

Monitor, assess, and provide feedback on the performance of junior team members

Keep partners abreast of progress on client matters

Explain complex technical issues to junior team members and clients clearly

Lead recruitment of staff, obtaining approval and completing People processes including recruitment

Implement disciplinary action with assistance from People & Culture or senior team as required

Participate in department structure and progression planning

Developing Business

Identify wider client opportunities and refer to other teams where appropriate

Demonstrate added value and prepare scope and quotes ready for Director or Partner review

Identify potential marketing campaigns and lead where appropriate

Start to build and maintain a wider network

Identify new business opportunities

Managing Risk

Be aware of commercial liability and alter engagement where appropriate

Able to say no internally where there is a perceived ethical issue

Scope client engagements with accuracy and due care

Internal Systems

Proficient with Office 365 and its many applications, as well as other software including tax return production, CRM, timesheets and more

Additional

Win and ensure fees for additional work performed are agreed and billed

Identify inefficiencies in processes and present alternative solutions

Recruitment Process
