What you'll do

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs tailored to the specific needs of each construction site.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to establish safety protocols and best practices for ongoing projects.
  • Provide training and orientation for new employees regarding safety procedures and emergency response plans.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, and inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns from employees and management.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in occupational health and safety to continually improve safety programs.
  • Facilitate safety meetings and workshops to promote awareness and engagement among employees regarding safety initiatives.
  • Work closely with external regulatory agencies during inspections and audits, ensuring all documentation is prepared and accurate.
  • Develop and distribute safety communications, including newsletters and bulletins, to keep all employees informed about safety updates and initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of safety by encouraging employee participation in safety committees and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
  • Proven experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare detailed reports on safety performance and compliance.
  • Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHST, or similar) is preferred.
  • Proficient in using safety management software and tools to track incidents and compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Nice to have

  • Experience with environmental safety regulations and compliance.
  • Familiarity with construction project management software.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a safety team.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification.
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.
