We are recruiting for a dynamic and highly skilled Group Commercial Manager to join our Group Commercial Department. This pivotal role provides strategic and operational commercial oversight across our Construction, Refurbishment, and Special Projects teams, ensuring commercial excellence, robust governance, and optimal project performance.
As a key commercial leader, you will operate at group level while working closely with project delivery teams and senior stakeholders. Your remit spans contract leadership, cost management, commercial risk control, client interface management, dispute prevention/resolution, and the effective management of multiple internal frameworks.
This position is well-suited to a strong Quantity Surveying professional ready to take a broader managerial role across diverse business units.
Key Responsibilities- Commercial & Contract Management: Lead full commercial governance across assigned project teams, maintaining alignment with Group Commercial frameworks. Oversee pre-contract activities including contract review, negotiation, amendments, and execution. Ensure effective management of contract administration, change control, claims, variations, cashflow, and final accounts. Interpret contract obligations (JCT / NEC) and ensure project teams operate to best-practice standards.
- Cost & Financial Control: Provide leadership in cost planning, forecasting, CVR analysis, and commercial reporting. Drive rigorous cost management across projects, ensuring profitability targets are met. Advise senior management on commercial risks, opportunities, and strategic commercial improvements.
- Client & Stakeholder Interface: Act as a senior client-facing commercial representative, building strong relationships and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle. Represent the department in internal governance, senior leadership discussions, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Dispute Mitigation & Resolution: Identify emerging commercial issues early and lead proactive strategies to mitigate risk. Manage dispute resolution processes, negotiating positive outcomes for the business where required.
- Framework & Departmental Leadership: Oversee commercial processes across multiple internal frameworks (Construction, Refurbishment, Special Projects) ensuring cohesion and compliance. Support capability development within the wider commercial team, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Align with group-level commercial strategy as outlined within senior-level proposals.
You will ideally bring:
- Strong Quantity Surveying background with demonstrable experience at Senior QS or Commercial Manager level.
- Deep commercial understanding across construction and building services environments.
- Expertise in contract management, particularly NEC and JCT.
- Proven ability to manage complex commercial workflows across multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence in leading dispute mitigation and resolution.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- High professional integrity and a solutions-driven approach.
Degree or HNC / HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional accreditation (RICS or equivalent) desirable but not essential.
